On Xen MSIs can be remapped into pirqs, which are a type of event
channels. It's mostly for the benefit of PCI passthrough devices, to
avoid the overhead of interacting with the emulated lapic.
However remapping interrupts and MSIs is also supported for emulated
devices, such as the e1000 and virtio-net.
When an interrupt or an MSI is remapped into a pirq, masking and
unmasking is done by masking and unmasking the event channel. The
masking bit on the PCI config space or MSI-X table should be ignored,
but it isn't at the moment.
As a consequence emulated devices which use MSI or MSI-X, such as
virtio-net, don't work properly (the guest doesn't receive any
notifications). The mechanism was working properly when xen_apic was
introduced, but I haven't narrowed down which commit in particular is
causing the regression.
Fix the issue by ignoring the masking bit for MSI and MSI-X which have
been remapped into pirqs.

This reverts commit c1d322e604.
The original commit fixes a bug when assigning a large number of
devices which require option roms to a guest. (One known
configuration that needs extra memory is having more than 4 emulated
NICs assigned. Three or fewer NICs seems to work without this
functionality.)
However, by unilaterally increasing maxmem, it introduces two
problems.
First, now libxl's calculation of the required maxmem during migration
is broken -- any guest which exercised this functionality will fail on
migration. (Guests which have the default number of devices are not
affected.)
Secondly, it makes it impossible for a higher-level toolstack or
administer to predict how much memory a VM will actually use, making
it much more difficult to effectively use all of the memory on a
machine.

memory: add address_space_translate
breaks Xen support in QEMU, in particular the Xen mapcache. The effect
is that one Windows XP installation out of ten would end up with BSOD.
The reason is that after this commit l in address_space_rw can span a
page boundary, however qemu_get_ram_ptr still calls xen_map_cache asking
to map a single page (if block->offset == 0).
Fix the issue by reverting to the previous behaviour: do not return a
length from address_space_translate_internal that can span a page
boundary.
Also in address_space_translate do not ignore the length returned by
address_space_translate_internal.

Support backend option "direct-io-safe". This is documented as
follows in the Xen backend specification:
* direct-io-safe
* Values: 0/1 (boolean)
* Default Value: 0
*
* The underlying storage is not affected by the direct IO memory
* lifetime bug. See:
* http://lists.xen.org/archives/html/xen-devel/2012-12/msg01154.html
*
* Therefore this option gives the backend permission to use
* O_DIRECT, notwithstanding that bug.
*
* That is, if this option is enabled, use of O_DIRECT is safe,
* in circumstances where we would normally have avoided it as a
* workaround for that bug. This option is not relevant for all
* backends, and even not necessarily supported for those for
* which it is relevant. A backend which knows that it is not
* affected by the bug can ignore this option.
*
* This option doesn't require a backend to use O_DIRECT, so it
* should not be used to try to control the caching behaviour.
Also, BDRV_O_NATIVE_AIO is ignored if BDRV_O_NOCACHE, so clarify the
default flags passed to the qemu block layer.
The original proposal for a "cache" backend option has been dropped
because it was believed too wide, especially considering that at the
moment the backend doesn't have a way to tell the toolstack that it is
capable of supporting it.

Use qemu_invalidate_entry in cpu_physical_memory_unmap.
Do not lock mapcache entries in qemu_get_ram_ptr if the address falls in
the ramblock with offset == 0. We don't need to do that because the
callers of qemu_get_ram_ptr either try to map an entire block, other
from the main ramblock, or until the end of a page to implement a single
read or write in the main ramblock.
If we don't lock mapcache entries in qemu_get_ram_ptr we don't need to
call qemu_invalidate_entry in qemu_put_ram_ptr anymore because we can
leave with few long lived block mappings requested by devices.

once rather than calling qemu_get_ram_ptr one time per page.
This is not only more efficient but also tries to simplify the logic of

Currently we are relying on the fact that all the pages are mapped
contiguously in qemu's address space: we have a check to make sure that
the virtual address returned by qemu_get_ram_ptr from the second call on
is consecutive. Now we are making this more explicit replacing all the
calls to qemu_get_ram_ptr with a single call to qemu_ram_ptr_length

Hi all,
currently the vga screen_dump code doesn't use the DisplayState
interface properly and tries to replace it temporarily while taking the
screenshot.
A better approach is to register a DisplayChangeListener, call
vga_hw_update, and finally write the ppm in the next call from dpy_update.
Testing is appreciated.

Hi all,
currently vga always resizes the screen when vga_hw_invalidate is called
while this is not required and all the other graphic emulators don't.
This patch fixes it, making vga invalidate behaviour consistent with the
other emulated devices.

Hi all,
this patch fixes the sdl window resize event handler so that it doesn't
require the emulated graphic card (or console.c) to call
qemu_console_resize.

This patch introduces dynamic timer intervals: we slow down the refresh
rate when there in no much activity but we get back to a fast refresh
rate when the activity resume.
Please note that qemu_timer_expired is not an inline function any more
because I needed to call it from vnc.c however I don't think this change
should have any serious consequence.

This patch removes the server surface from VncState and adds a single
server surface to VncDisplay for all the possible clients connected.
Each client maintains a different dirty bitmap in VncState.
The guest surface is moved to VncDisplay as well because we don't need
to track guest updates in more than one place.
This patch has been updated to handle CopyRect correctly and efficiently.

This patch removes the timer per vnc client connected and adds a single
timer to update all the possible clients.
We call vga_hw_update only once in the timer handler.

Hi all,
this patch implements zooming capabilities for the sdl interface.
A new sdl_zoom_blit function is added that is able to scale and blit a
portion of a surface into another.
This way we can enable SDL_RESIZABLE and have a real_screen surface with
a different size than the guest surface and let sdl_zoom_blit take care
of the problem.
